Man dead after a bicycle crash on Katy Freeway in Houston (Houston, TX)

On Monday, a man lost his life following a two-vehicle collision in Houston.

As per the initial information, the fatal bicycle crash took place at about 1 p.m. on the Katy Freeway near Beltway 8. The early reports showed that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on one of the main lanes of the Katy Freeway when a gray-colored Jeep Cherokee, in the middle of changing lanes, hit him.

The impact of the collision pushed the bicyclist towards the Katy Freeway toll lanes. The man was declared dead at the scene by the officials. The 21-year-old driver of the Jeep stayed at the scene and was interviewed by the officers, but later released.

Authorities found out that he was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. At this time, it is unknown why the bicyclist was riding on the freeway main lanes. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
