A man received injuries after a bicycle got struck by an ambulance Wednesday evening in Othello.

As per the initial information, the bicycle crash took place between 1st Avenue and Thacker Road at around 5:30 p.m. The early reports showed that the bicyclist was in the westbound lane of SR 26 next to Othello when an ambulance going along the same stretch of road hit the bicycle.

The cyclist had fractures in both legs and was initially rushed to a hospital in Othello where it was determined that he needed to be flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment. Officials redirected people around the crash scene with both westbound and eastbound lanes blocked during the investigation.

As of now, it is not known who was at fault. The reports also indicated that the ambulance that struck the bicyclist might have initially treated him at the scene, but it is unclear if it took him to the hospital. The ambulance was not taking a patient when the incident happened. However, it is unknown if the privately-owned AMR ambulance was responding to an emergency with its lights on at the time of the crash. No other details are available.

The incident remains under active review.
