Jeffrey Rankinen died after being hit by a truck while unloading construction materials (Marquette County, MI)

Officials identified 34-year-old Jeffrey Rankinen, of Michigan, as the man who lost his life after he was run down by a truck in the Upper Peninsula.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post actively responded to a residence on Nicholas Avenue in Palmer at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday after getting information of an auto-pedestrian accident.

Further investigation into the crash indicated that 34-year-old Jeffrey Rankinen was unloading construction materials from a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche in a private driveway when the driver, William Judkins, put the vehicle in reverse and accidentally hit Rankinen.

Responding officials arrived at the scene and performed Lifesaving measures. Then, Rankinen was rushed to UPHS Marquette for treatment by EMS where he later succumbed to his injuries. Troopers were provided assistance at the scene by the Forsyth Township Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Township EMS/Fire and UPHS EMS.
