On Tuesday afternoon, a horrific traffic collision involving two vehicles has claimed lives of two people on Marin Avenue in Berkeley, police said.
The crash was reported at around 1:40 p.m. near San Benito Road. As per the Berkeley police, a passenger in one vehicle died on the spot due to the crash whereas the driver of that vehicle was rushed to Highland hospital in critical condition, but the driver did not survive.
Police told that the second vehicle involved was occupied with a mother and daughter. First responders took the mother to Highland Hospital with moderate injuries and the victim’s daughter accompanied her, but it is unknown if she required any treatment. The two-0vehicle crash also damaged a power pole at the scene. PG&E estimated that the repair will probably affect around 1,000 people in the area for the next few hours.
Police remained at the scene of the collision as the investigation continues as authorities try to find out the cause that resulted in the fatal crash. Marin Avenue is blocked from Grizzly Peak Boulevard to the Circle, according to police. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
