A head-on crash killed a 16-year-old boy, a resident of Brentwood, and injured two other teenagers on Wednesday, authorities stated.
The CHP said that officers got information of the collision at about 5:35 p.m. and quickly responded to the 4500 block of Sellers Avenue just south of Delta Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County. On arrival, officers found a white 2015 Acura TLX sedan that had hit a blue 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Both vehicles had major front-end damage, with debris closing down multiple lanes. The Acura’s driver, identified as the Brentwood boy, was declared deceased at the scene. His passenger, a 15-year-old boy, sustained critical injuries, while a 19-year-old Discovery Bay resident steering the Ford suffered serious injuries.
Oakley and Brentwood police responded to the scene and provided traffic control while East Contra Costa Fire District firefighters set up an area for a medical life-flight helicopter for the 15-year-old and requested a ground ambulance for the 19-year-old. Both teens were rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment. It is not known if alcohol or drugs played as a potential factor in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
