According to the California Highway Patrol, a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles in Lodi killed a man on Thursday. The officials later identified the victim as Gene Benton.
Approximately at 5:00 p.m., Gene Benton was riding his bike westbound on Highway 12, west of Interstate 5. He moved into the path of a Volkswagen Beetle that was driven by a 19-year-old. Eventually, both vehicles collided and Gene Benton was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the dead is not yet disclosed. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. No further information is available at the moment.
