Early Monday morning, a tragic head-on collision occurred on Interstate 20, claiming the lives of two drivers. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Erik Esquivel, 27, and Geri Lynn Russell, 62.
Their deaths were ruled as accidents, with Esquivel succumbing to blunt force injuries, and Russell to multiple blunt force injuries. The fatal multi-vehicle accident unfolded just before 3 a.m. on I-20 East near Hulen Street, close to Hulen Mall.
A vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes triggered the fatal crash, resulting in a devastating impact between a pickup truck and an SUV.
Both drivers were fatally injured and were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from the errant vehicle was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, though their identity and condition remain undisclosed. Authorities have not specified which driver was in the vehicle going the wrong way.
