Elderly woman dead after a two-car collision in Modesto (Modesto, CA)

A woman in her 80s lost her life after a traffic collision Tuesday in Modesto.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place before 8 p.m. on Highway 132 and Gates Road. The preliminary reports showed that the woman was driving a southbound red Kia when she pulled over at a stop sign. As she drove into the intersection, a westbound gray Kia, driven by a 25-year-old Modesto man, crashed into her car.

Due to the impact, the red Kia was sent southwest leaving the roadway. The Kia fell into a canal that flows parallel to Gates Road. The red Kia reportedly got fully submerged in the canal. Eyewitnesses pulled the woman out of her vehicle.

Medics provided CPR to the woman on her way to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving. The gray Kia’s driver incurred minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. No further details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
