A pickup truck fell from I-5 lanes onto Lakeway Drive, injuring the driver in Bellingham.
As per the initial information, a red 1999 Ford F250 pickup was northbound on I-5 when it failed to negotiate a curve to the right and drifted off the roadway into the median. The vehicle then came back onto the roadway but the driver failed to maintain control and the vehicle crossed both lanes. The truck went into and over the guardrail, landing on the driver’s side on Lakeway Drive.
The driver was reportedly the only occupant of the vehicle and required help to get out of the vehicle. On arrival, rescuers extricated the victim and took them to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in stable condition by ambulance.
No charges are pending but the driver will face citation for driving with wheels off the roadway. There were no signs of driving under the influence, officials mentioned. 10 to 12 guardrail posts along I-5 were damaged due to the accident.
An investigation is continuing.
