A driver was hurt after a vehicle struck two guard rails on I-240 in Memphis.
As per the initial information, the authorities actively responded to the area at I-240 and Union Avenue just after 3 a.m. Friday morning on reports of a single-vehicle crash. The involved vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz E35, with heavy front-end damage, ended up facing north on I-240 near the Union exit.
The driver informed police that he was traveling north on the interstate when he fell asleep at the wheel. He further mentioned that he woke up when his car ran up on the embankment. He then informed officers that his car collided with two guard rails, causing the front tires to blow.
The driver declined to be taken to a hospital and was provided medical assistance at the scene. Police cited the driver for striking a fixed object, failure to maintain proper control and financial responsibility. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 11, police said. The Mercedes was hauled away to a private lot by DTS Towing. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
