Driver dead after car hits a tree on Bellflower Boulevard in Lakewood (Lakewood, CA)

On early Wednesday morning, a man in his 30s was killed after his car smashed into a tree on the 5900 block of Bellflower Boulevard in Lakewood.

According to the preliminary reports, the man was driving his vehicle when it swerved off the roadway just before 12:30 a.m. for reasons that are yet to be known. That part of the road, north of South Street, is lined with trees that separate the main thoroughfare from homes.

The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle. It is unknown at this time whether the driver died at the scene or at the hospital. The authorities will release the identity of the deceased after notifying the next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation.
