According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a multi-vehicle accident occurred in Sabine County on Thursday.
The crash happened on State Highway 184, at the Starr Funeral Home at around 7:43 p.m.
The officials stated that a 2022 Ford SUV, a 2016 Volkswagen passenger, and a patrol unit were involved in the collision.
According to the reports, the driver of the Ford traveling out onto the roadway was struck by the patrol unit which went on and crashed into the SUV.
Deputy Alec Eichler was identified as the driver of the Patrol unit. He suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
No additional information regarding the crash was provided by the Deputies.
