The San Pedro Police Department reported a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning.
The cyclist was struck by an unidentified small light-colored vehicle that was also traveling northbound around 12:40 a.m., while they were riding on Pacific Avenue south of Channel Street. The victim was ejected from his bicycle and collided with the roadway as a result of the collision, and the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim or identify itself, according to police.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Neither their identity nor the identity of their family has been released.
The fatal collision is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
