Car strikes and knocks down a traffic signal at Chula Vista intersection (Chula Vista, CA)

On late Sunday night, police are looking for a driver who struck and brought a traffic signal down to the ground at a Chula Vista intersection.

According to the Chula Vista Police, officers were sent to Palomar Street and 5th Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. in response to a solo vehicle crash. Officers reached at the scene to find a traffic signal down across the lanes, with a car wedged against a barrier with its back tires in the air.

Authorities did not find the driver of the vehicle after the accident, but a passenger was still inside the car. As per the initial reports, the passenger reported police that he was asleep when the incident occurred. He was transported to the hospital to be evaluated. A description of the driver and the vehicle was not immediately available.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
