The Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Thursday morning.
The Houston Police officer struck a pedestrian while driving in the middle lane of Aldine Bender Road in the direction of Picton.
The officer allegedly turned around and attempted to save the victim’s life, but was unsuccessful.
The victim was identified as Caleb Swafford by family members and friends to the media at the scene.
They claimed that when he was hit, he was en route to visit a friend who lived in the Haverstock Hill Apartments.
The officer wasn’t using his lights and sirens in a well-lit area because he was responding to a non-urgent call.
The fatal crash is being investigated and officials do not think speed was a factor involved.
