On Thursday afternoon, Highway 24 was blocked at the Hanford site’s Yakima Barricade due to blowing dust and a chain-reaction crash, as per officials at the nuclear reservation.

Blowing dust was also creating visibility issues Thursday afternoon in the Tri-Cities, including on Interstate 82 and Dallas Road in Richland, with the Washington State Patrol advising that motorists turn on their lights. blowing dust is expected to subside by late Thursday night.

At around 1:30 p.m. Thursday the Hanford Fire Department actively responded to a crash wherein a semi-truck and other vehicles were involved as blowing dust reduced visibility. The multi-vehicle pile-up did not cause any major injuries. The Washington state Department of Transportation later blocked the highway from the Yakima Barricade west to Highway 241, which goes to Sunnyside, until almost 6 p.m.

An investigation is underway.
