Authorities identified 62-year-old James Davis who died in a motorcycle crash on Merchant Drive (Knoxville, TN)

On Tuesday, the Knoxville Police Department confirmed that 62-year-old James Davis, a resident of Knoxville, died who suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Merchants Drive on Saturday.

Officers quickly responded to the crash scene on Merchant Drive at Merchants Center Boulevard shortly before noon. Officials asked the drivers to adopt alternative routes as they worked at the scene. The authorities confirmed on Tuesday that 62-year-old James Davis was killed in the accident.

According to the initial reports, a motorcycle driven by Davis was heading westbound on Merchant Drive when an SUV rear-ended the motorcycle and also hit him. Davis was rushed to UT Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
