Authorities identified 39-year-old Joseph Fortunato Ghio who lost his life following a traffic collision in the Loma Portal neighborhood near Liberty Station earlier this month.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 4. The investigation reports showed that Joseph Fortunato Ghio was driving east on Lytton Street when he and a driver traveling south on Rosecrans Street collided in the intersection.
Due to the impact, Ghio was ejected from his vehicle and died before he could be transported to a hospital. Initially, police mistakenly reported that the driver who died was a 68-year-old man. The other driver, a 27-year-old man, had only minor injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment. It is not yet clear which driver had the right of way. No other details are available.
