Authorities identified 38-year-old Hugo Morales who died in a single-vehicle crash on 14 Freeway (Santa Clarita, CA)

Authorities identified 38-year-old Hugo Morales, a resident of Lancaster, lost his life after being ejected from his vehicle and killed in a crash on 14 Freeway Wednesday.

Hugo Morales, 38, a Lancaster man, was killed in a single-vehicle crash, said Sarah Ardalani, according to the spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

At about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, a white 2006 Toyota Tacoma was going northbound on the 14 Freeway north of Escondido Canyon Road in the No. 4 lane at an unknown speed, the California Highway Patrol said in a report.

“The Toyota went off the roadway for an unknown reason, crossed the right shoulder and crashed into a metal guardrail to the east of the roadway,” the statement stated. The crash caused the truck to roll over, ejecting Morales who was not wearing a seat belt at that time, the report said.

“The Toyota kept on going down an embankment and onto a private property on Escondido Canyon Road,” the statement further added.

A female passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and managed to self-extricate from the vehicle before being flown to Henry Mayo Hospital, as per the officials. The medical personnel tended Morales at the scene after which he was declared deceased at around 4:18 p.m., according to officials.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
