Authorities identified 38-year-old Birhane Tsfamariyam who died after a crash on I-40 in Knoxville (Knoxville, TN)

Authorities identified 38-year-old Birhane Tsfamariyam, of Knoxville, as the victim who was killed following a crash on I-40 near Strawberry Plains Pike.

The fatal incident also led to the closure of I-40 for hours on Tuesday. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle was heading on I-40 West when it lost control, crossed on to I-40 East where it crashed into a vehicle going east.

On arrival, medical personnel rushed two occupants of the westbound vehicle to an area hospital, where Tsfamariyam was later declared dead. The other victim was listed in critical condition. The occupant of the eastbound vehicle was also transported to an area hospital with non-critical injuries. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
