Authorities identified 19-year-old Johnny Ildefonzo Punzalan as the second passenger who died following a single-vehicle accident a week earlier in San Diego.
The fatal car crash took place on North Torrey Pines Road. According to the investigation reports, Johnny Ildefonzo Punzalan was riding without a seatbelt in the sports car that struck a guardrail and then jumped onto the sand off North Torrey Pines Road. Another 19-year-old passenger who died in the crash was identified earlier this week as Joshua Adonai Manzanares.
Authorities stated that Punzalan and Manzanares were two of five victims in the car, including the driver, and that both were ejected from the vehicle after the accident. The young men, who were both from Lake Elsinore, were declared deceased at the scene by the officials. The other three people, aged between 18 and 19 years old, have not been identified at this time.
Of the three, two were rushed to the hospital in serious condition while one, the driver, received only minimal injuries. It is unknown why the driver failed to maintain control of the car, a Subaru WRX sedan. Authorities reported earlier this week that they suspect DUI was involved and that the speed was excessive. No other details are available.
The crash remains under review.
