Authorities identified 18-year-old Rebecca Yaple who died in a single-vehicle accident last week (San Marcos, TX)

San Marcos police released the name of 18-year-old Rebecca Yaple, a resident of Kyle, who lost her life in a single-vehicle crash last week.

The fatal incident took place at about 3:52 a.m. on July 19. Officials reported that Yaple was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot near Sessom Drive and Aquarena Springs Drive when her car ran off the roadway and struck a portion of a tree. Her vehicle came to rest inside a pond on Texas State University’s campus, officers mentioned.

The San Marcos Police Department, along with San Marcos Fire Department and Hays County EMS, removed the victim from the water and performed lifesaving efforts on her.  Yaple died of her injuries at the scene. According to the officers, a passenger was removed from the Honda Pilot and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Officials stated that alcohol does not seem to have played a role in the fatal crash. Investigation showed that the driver may have experienced a medical episode before the accident. The medical examiner will conduct an evaluation, authorities added.

The crash is under investigation.
