A tragedy struck early Monday morning on Interstate 215 in Riverside, as a five-vehicle collision claimed the life of a motorist and left at least one person injured. The multi-vehicle accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. on southbound I-215, just south of MLK Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Riverside Fire Department crews arrived at the fatal crash minutes later and tragically pronounced one victim dead, whose identity has not yet been disclosed. Another motorist was reportedly treated for unspecified injuries. Debris littered the lanes, leading to the closure of all but the HOV lane on the southbound side.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:40 a.m., causing significant traffic congestion. While officers began reopening lanes at daybreak, the closure remained in effect until after 9 a.m. The collision remains under investigation by authorities.
