The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident on Sunday.
The accident occurred on Southbound Highway 17 near Bear Creek Road at around 9:57 p.m.
The officials reported that there were around 4-5 vehicles involved in the crash.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person has been transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The identities of the deceased and the injured have not been disclosed by the police pending notification of the family. No details have been released regarding the vehicles involved.
The cause of the fatal accident is still being investigated.
The southbound lanes of the highway were shut while the police investigated the crash.
