The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 10 near Calimesa on February 5. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., a vehicle veered off the freeway just west of Live Oak Canyon Road, resulting in a rollover.
Witnesses informed the CHP that the vehicle, identified as a pickup truck, came to rest on its side in a ditch, adjacent to a chain link fence. Despite the efforts of several motorists who stopped to assist, at least one person succumbed to their injuries at the scene, as confirmed by the CHP. The identity of the victim remains unknown at this point.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated by the authorities. In response to the accident, the Live Oak onramp to westbound I-10 was closed. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. There are no other details available at this time.
