An SUV struck and killed a woman on Interstate 680 in San Ramon (San Ramon, CA)

On Monday morning, a woman lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while walking on Interstate 680.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place at around 12:55 a.m. As per the preliminary investigation, the woman was walking across the southbound lanes of Interstate 680, just north of Bollinger Canyon Road from the right hand shoulder to the center divider when she was hit by an SUV.

The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Officials announced a Sig Alert briefly and southbound lanes were closed as responders worked in the area. The officers are trying to find out if a vehicle found near the northbound lanes was connected with the fatality. The identity of the deceased will be released after notifying the next of kin.

The incident remains under active review.
