Phoenix police say that a suspected impaired driver struck an armored car on Wednesday morning, causing critical injuries to himself and two other children in his car.
The incident took place just before 8 a.m. near 87th Avenue and Thomas Road. Video from the Arizona’s Family news chopper revealed an armed Garda vehicle with front-end damage and a wrecked sedan. An official said that a 29-year-old man traveling westbound on a sedan at a very fats speed. Meanwhile, he lost balance and crossed into eastbound traffic, crashing into an armored car.
On arrival, crews found the 29-year-old man and his two passengers, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl, pinned inside the sedan. However, Crews managed to safely free them from the vehicle. Then, they rushed them to the hospital in critical condition. Furthermore, the driver of the sedan displayed symptoms of impairment.
The driver and passenger of the armored vehicle remained on scene. Paramedics assessed them on the scene and neither requested transport to the hospital. The official added that they do not suspect impairment in the armored car driver. However, the impaired driver will face charges, pending further investigation. Authorities have not revealed names of victims as of now.
An investigation is continuing.
