On Sunday evening, a vehicle hit and killed an 84-year-old Royal Oak man who was crossing an intersection in Metro Detroit.
Officers actively responded to the intersection of Thirteen Mile and Campbell Road at about 8:10 p.m. after getting reports of a pedestrian crash. The early reports showed that the man was trying to cross from the north to the south side of Thirteen Mile, outside the area of a crosswalk, when he got hit by the vehicle. The driver was going westbound at the time of the collision.
On arrival, emergency crews rushed the man to Beaumont hospital where he later died of his injuries. Authorities shut own several lanes of Thirteen Mile for some time as crews worked at the scene. The driver, a 19-year-old resident of Royal Oak stayed at the scene and remained uninjured. Officers ascertained that alcohol was not involved in the accident.
An investigation continues.
