A wrong-way collision killed 1 person and injured 5 people, including 4 juveniles in Encino (Ventura, CA)

On Thursday evening, one person died and five people were injured, including four children and an adult, following a wrong-way collision on the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino.

As per the initial information, the incident was reported at 7:10 p.m. close to the San Diego (405) Freeway, after the driver of a white Lincoln Navigator collided with a big rig head-on. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that one adult and four juveniles were taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries, while a passenger in the SUV, described as a woman in her 20s, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the SUV attempted to escape from the scene, but was arrested by police, investigators said. All except the first lane of the southbound Ventura Freeway were closed for an unknown duration as paramedics assessed patients, according to the CHP.

An investigation is underway.
