A wrong-way accident kills one person and injures another on I-16 in Savannah (Savannah, GA)

On early Friday morning, one person was killed and another received injuries following a wrong-way accident on Interstate 16 in Savannah, as per the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

According to the initial reports, a black BMW was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Lynes Parkway (Interstate 516) at 1:40 a.m. Troopers searched the crash site and found out that the BMW had collided with a green garbage truck just before exit 164.

The eastbound lanes were completely closed down until about 4:30 a.m. as crews removed the debris. Troopers confirmed that the driver of the BMW succumbed to their injuries following the collision. Authorities will reveal the identity of the deceased after notifying the next of kin. No other details are available.

The incident remains under active review.
