On early Tuesday, a 22-year-old female driver lost her life while 23-year-old William Yousef Hattar and 18-year-old Kara Trisha Giacone sustained serious injuries in a wrong-way accident on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Anaheim.
The Anaheim woman, whose name has not been immediately released, got on the freeway at Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim heading west in the eastbound lanes at around 1:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Mitch Smith said.
Her 2000 Dodge pickup truck crashed into a 2015 Honda whose driver and passenger received major injuries, as per the CHP. The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old William Yousef Hattar, and his passenger, 18-year-old Kara Trisha Giacone, a resident of Tustin, were rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center to be treated for “major injuries,” the CHP added.
A 2019 Mercedes-Benz was also involved in the wreck, but the occupants did not seem to have sustained any injuries following the crash. A passenger in the Mercedes, 39-year-old Fadal FadsslElijazzar was detained for charges unrelated to the crash, the CHP confirmed. Officials with the Orange County coroner’s office were called to the crash site at 1:44 a.m.
An investigation is continuing.
