The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident in Vista on Saturday. The accident occurred on State Route 78, just west of Melrose Drive at around 9:27 p.m.
According to the officials, a white Toyota Corolla was headed west behind an Oceanside woman who was driving a white Kia Spectra. The Corolla crashed into the rear of the Kia which caused both cars to crash into the right shoulder. The Kia then rolled over.
The driver of the Kia, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene after incurring fatal injuries. Her identity is not yet known at this time.
The driver of the Corolla, identified as 22-year-old Nicholas Gordon, and his 18-year-old passenger were injured and treated at a hospital. Gordon was arrested on felony charges of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter in the fatal crash.
