The Jacksonville Police Department reported a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday. The accident occurred west of U.S. 69 on the Union Pacific Rail Line at around 1 p.m.
According to the officials, a train and a pedestrian were involved in the collision. A woman was walking east on the tracks while the train was approaching. She did not respond to any of the train’s warning horns and the train crashed into her.
The woman was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the woman has not been disclosed at this time.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
