A vehicles struck and injured a 59-year-old man in Berkeley; DUI suspected (Berkeley, CA)

A 59-year-old man was injured after being hit by a vehicle in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Oregon Street.

The auto-pedestrian crash took place at about 2:46 p.m. today. The driver, a 65-year-old Berkeley male, was contacted at the scene and has since been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury.

The victim, a 59-year-old male, was rushed to a local trauma hospital and is in critical, but stable condition. It is unclear if the pedestrian was using a crosswalk or not at the time of the collision. San Pablo Avenue between Grayson Street and Heinz Avenue will remain blocked while the investigation continues for the next few hours.

Berkeley police are looking into this crash.
