On Sunday night, a man who was under the influence of drugs received life-threatening injuries after being run down by a vehicle on the Plum Street off-ramp on I-5.
The preliminary investigation indicated that at about 9:18 p.m., 55-year-old Lana Monfort from Olympia was traveling south and got onto the off-ramp where she witnessed a man with a flashlight walking in lane one.
The man with the flashlight was a passing driver who stopped to check on the person lying in the road in order to provide help. Lana Monfort switched to lane 2 without noticing that the man was also lying on lane 2, following which the vehicle ran down the man, causing major injuries.
On arrival, the emergency crews airlifted the victim to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Officials stated that the victim is still alive as of Monday. Reports further said that the Olympia Police Department used narcan to revive him earlier in the day. Monfort was not under the influence when she hit the pedestrian.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
