On Sunday, a woman lost her life after getting struck by a vehicle on State Route 99.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place on State Route 99 near Belmont Avenue. The early reports showed that a car hit the woman’s suitcase as she walked on SR-99 near Belmont Avenue. The woman’s belongings were thrown across the highway. As the woman tried to collect her things in the lane of traffic while on her hands and knees, she got hit by another vehicle.
The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified. The driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Officials closed all southbound lanes of State Route 99 at Belmont Avenue for approximately an hour and a half as crews worked at the scene. Officers rerouted the traffic to SR-180, resulting in a two-mile backup.
Reports confirmed that DUI was not involved in the collision on part of the driver. At this time, it is unknown if the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. No additional details were provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
