On Saturday night, a man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle in Merced.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at approximately 7:40 p.m. on R Street and Donna Drive. The preliminary investigation indicated that a car hit a man for reasons that are yet to be known. On arrival, responders found the victim with major injuries and they pronounced him dead.
The driver of the involved vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Officials believe that alcohol and drugs were not involved in the collision. Northbound R Street from Buena Vista Drive was shut down as crews worked at the scene. No additional information has been provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
