A two-vehicle crash near Wapato left a 5-year-old boy in the hospital (Wapato, WA)

On Thursday afternoon, a 5-year-old boy suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle accident near Wapato.

Officers quickly responded to the intersection of South Wapato and Branch Roads at about 1 p.m. after getting reports of a traffic collision. The preliminary investigation showed that a 5-year-old boy was ejected through the back window of one of the vehicles after the accident. On arrival, medics rushed the boy to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for injuries to his head.

The child was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition is unknown at this time. The driver of the vehicle, a boy and a 1-year-old child were also transported to the hospital for treatment and are expected to recover. The driver of the other vehicle had cuts and bruises.

The incident remains under investigation.
