44-year-old Dawn Bernard and 53-year-old James Bellard lost their lives in a fatal two-vehicle collision on LA Highway 95 about 4 miles north Duson.
As per the early reports, Bernard was heading east on LA 1097 in a 2017 Honda Accord. As Bernard reached the intersection with LA 95, she did not yield at a stop sign. The Honda then entered the intersection and was hit by a northbound 2006 Ford F-350 driven by Bellard. Both vehicles came to a stop off the roadway after the crash.
Bellard, who was not wearing their seatbelt at the time of the accident died at the scene. It is unknown if Bernard was restrained at the time of the accident at this time. On arrival, medics rushed her to a nearby hospital where she later died. A toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.
An investigation is underway.
