On Thursday, one person was killed after a two-vehicle accident in Calcasieu Parish on I-10.

As per the initial information, Troopers from Troop D were alerted of a fatal two-vehicle collision on I-10 near mile marker 5, just east of US Hwy 90 (Exit 4) in Calcasieu Parish, at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 2. The accident claimed the life of the Ford Expedition driver.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a 2002 Ford Expedition was heading west on I-10 in the left lane of travel. For reasons that are yet to be known, the Ford crossed the center dashed line and went off the right side of the roadway.

After veering off the roadway, the Ford collided with the trailer of a 2016 Peterbilt that was stalled on the shoulder of the roadway due to mechanical problems. The driver, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, received major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt remained unharmed in the accident, and a toxicology sample was obtained from the driver of the Ford and sent for analysis.

An investigation is underway.
