On Wednesday morning, 33-year-old Raymond Mitchell lost his life following a tragic accident on Interstate 5, south of Kalama.
According to the initial reports, the tow truck driver, Raymond Mitchell, was helping a driver on the right shoulder of southbound I-5 at about 10:30 a.m. Just then, a passenger car traveling in the right lane slowed, as a result of which the log truck behind applied the brakes at once.
The log truck had an unloaded bobtail trailer that swung over the right lane and struck the tow truck and Mitchell. Mitchell succumbed to his injuries as a result of the accident. Charges against the driver of the log truck are under review at this time.
A section of Interstate 5 from Exit 30 to Exit 27 was shut down for hours during the investigation process. The interstate was back open again at around 3:15 p.m. No other details are immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
