A tow truck fatally struck a male pedestrian and dragged him before fleeing the scene (Los Angeles, CA)

Authorities are searching for the driver of a tow truck who fatally hit a male pedestrian and dragged him 180 feet before escaping from the scene in South Los Angeles.

As per the initial information, the fatal pedestrian accident happened at around 9:55 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Broadway and 54th Street in the South Park neighborhood. The pedestrian was walking against the “don’t walk” signal in a marked crosswalk when a light-colored wrecker tow truck heading north on Broadway hit and dragged him, police stated.

The victim was eventually dislodged and the driver stopped temporarily, but fled from the scene without providing aid or identifying themselves. The accident was eye-witnessed by two people, according to reports. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased. He is only being described as being between 40 and 50 years old.

The crash remains under active review.
