On Sunday, 57-year-old James Slayden, a California man, suffered injuries after a single-vehicle rollover accident, just south of Toppenish.
Officials immediately responded to the crash scene on US-97 near mile post 57 at around 3:15 p.m. According to the officers, the semi-truck was traveling north towards Toppenish when the driver lost control, smashed through the guardrail as a result of which the truck rolled on its side.
The impact caused the cabin of the truck to be separated from the rest of the truck. On arrival, emergency crews rescued the man who had been pinned inside the cabin and transported him to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Authorities stated that the Department of Ecology will also assess the scene as some diesel had leaked into the nearby creek.
