Four teens have been hospitalized following a single-vehicle crash, after the driver of their car veered off the road while trying to grab his cell phone.
The incident took place at around 4 a.m. on Monday morning on Road 11-Southwest from Road P-Southwest. As per reports, the driver, a 17-year-old Royal City teen, dropped his cell phone and swerved off the road while trying to grab his cell phone, as a result of which the car crashed into a utility pole and flipped over.
The impact of the crash partially ejected a 16-year-old girl from the car, and medics airlifted her to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, and then to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle according to officials.
Emergency crews also transported two other teens riding in the car, a 16 and 17-year old and the driver to Samaritan Health Care in Moses Lake. Their injuries are not considered as life-threatening. Authorities said it seems that the driver took his family’s car without their knowledge. Charges against the driver are pending.
An investigation is underway.
