On Tuesday afternoon, a single-vehicle accident shut down I-10 in both directions near the I-210 interchange on the east side of Lake Charles.

According to officials, the tanker truck was carrying a liquid chemical product. The incident took place in the westbound lanes, involving hazardous materials. Officers mentioned that the chemical has been identified as Neopentyl glycol and it has no inhalation hazard. Chemicals are in east and westbound lanes. The driver of the truck suffered minimal injuries as a result of the accident.

Authorities blocked I-10 through Lake Charles for traffic and asked driver to expect long delays in the area. Police stated that eastbound drivers may direct to U.S. 90. Westbound drivers can go towards north on La. 397 at the Cameron Creole exit, turn west on La. 3059 to U.S. 171, then head south on 171 back to I-10.
