On early Sunday, a 56-year-old San Diego man lost his life while his 28-year-old male passenger suffered injuries following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 15, north of Pala Mesa.
As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place at around 1:20 a.m. in the area of Stewart Canyon Road. The preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle drifted to the right, off the southbound freeway, and struck a guardrail.
On arrival, paramedics rushed the driver and his passenger to a hospital with major injuries, but the driver succumbed to his injuries on arrival. The passenger stays under treatment at the hospital as of Monday morning. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
