On Saturday morning, one person was killed and another received critical injuries following a rollover accident on Interstate 15 and Mission Road.

According to the initial reports, the single-vehicle crash took place on northbound Interstate 15 of Mission Road at about 3:24 a.m. Reports showed that a sedan crashed and flipped over for reasons that are yet to be known. The force of the crash threw both occupants from the sedan.

Officials confirmed the death of one person as a result of the accident. Paramedics rushed another person to Palomar Hospital in critical condition. Caltrans San Diego declared a Sig alert and shut down the freeway while vehicles were rerouted off the freeway at Rainbow Valley Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
