On Sunday morning, a man lost his life while 41-year-old Rick Barretta and his three passengers received injuries in a rear-end crash on Highway 101 and Rohnert Park Expressway.
The incident took place at around 4:00 a.m. on Highway 101, north of Rohnert Park Expressway. According to the initial information, a male driver was going north on Highway 101 when he stopped his gray Nissan in the middle lane and came out of the vehicle.
When the man was standing near his car, a Ford F-250, driven by Mr. Barretta, hit the Nissan from behind. The force of the collision propelled the Nissan forward, in effect striking the male driver. The man was thrown on the road where a Ford F-150 struck him.
The latter Ford was driven by 26-year-old Jorge Mendoza-Suarez. 41-year-old Barretta and his three passengers suffered injuries as a result of the wreck. On arrival, medics transported them to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The F-150 driver, Mr. Mendoza-Suarez, remained unharmed in the accident. The authorities have not found out yet why the deceased Nissan driver stopped his vehicle on the northbound side of the highway. The identities of the victims remain undisclosed.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
