Earlier today, 60-year-old, Alberto Toscano, a resident of Newman, lost his life following a two-vehicle crash on Eastin Road, involving 24-year-old Cesar Bravo.
The incident took place just after 5:30 a.m., around half-mile south of Highway 33. Toscano on a John Deere tractor was towing a sprayer tank while heading south on Eastin Road when a Chevrolet pickup struck him from behind.
Following the collision, Toscano’s tractor ran off the west side of the road and flipped over, while its trailer got wrapped around a power pole. The pickup ran into a field on the east side of the roadway due to the crash.
Toscano was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He was ejected from the tractor and landed in the roadway after the impact. Responding officers declared him deceased at the scene. Bravo, the Chevrolet driver, received minimal injuries but refused treatment.
He reported to the officers that the sun was coming up and in his eyes which minimized his visibility. Investigating officers stated that drugs and alcohol do not seem to have contributed to this accident. However, they are trying to find out if pickup’s speed as well as distracted driving played a role in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
