On Thursday morning, an 80-year-old man, a resident of El Monte, lost his life after being struck by a pickup while he was crossing a street in El Monte.
He later died of his injuries at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, El Monte police Lt. Richard Luna confirmed. Officers did not detain the driver who stayed at the scene, he mentioned. The incident was reported to the police at 5:13 a.m.
According to the initial reports, the man was walking across Durfee Avenue, south of Schmidt Road, when a pickup truck fatally struck him, Luna stated. The pickup was traveling south on Durfee Avenue. The coroner will release the identity of the deceased after notifying the next of kin.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
